January 2009 has seen some of the coldest weather in West cornwall for 20 years, with 2 consecutive nights of very hard frost, down to minus 10 C in the valley at Penberth. Add to that three weeks of East wind, lovely and dry but a real wind chill. It has knocked out all the blue echium plants for a year or two, and lots of tender succulents and ferns are on the patient list. But the plus is that the level of sand on our two favourite beaches has risen considerably as you will see from these two images, which our regulars will recognise.
